You can’t rush the seasons

The changing hues of greens to yellow, orange and red, the falling leaves, the days drawing in, the cold beginning to set. Winter comes with its cold death, the barren trees, the frosted earth, howling winds, rain, and snowstorms. The deserted streets, with people rushing on, cowering into their heavy coats hoping to keep the warmth in.  At the peak of it, it seems nothing will ever grow again and the remembrance of warm, long sunny days seems a distant past.

Perhaps, organisations like the seasons cannot be rushed.  The sequence of the seasons has to be allowed to take its course: autumn, followed by winter, followed by spring, followed by summer.  You cannot rush the seasons, but maybe like the waning and waxing of the moon phases, lives in organisations go through their own seasons.  Maybe autumn has to be followed by winter before spring is allowed to come with its own rebirth and promise of sunnier days….

After all changing the culture of an organisation takes a huge effort, and many years of collective work. But first, trust has to be re-established.
